A bad day at the office..

It’s not really been that bad today, but a few things have upset the normal balance at the Dog Palace. When I woke I felt that my stomach and other digestive organs were a little upset and walking an hour at a time with dogs with no convenient toilet is far from ideal. Sure enough after I started, trouble ensued and I did my best given the circumstances! The first walk got worse as Rita put her head in some undergrowth and reappeared with what looked like a weasel or stoat. It’s fate was sealed, I wasn’t going to be able to save it and the only good thing was it died very quickly. Rita decided she wanted to carry it back to the Palace, but luckily gave that idea up. Unfortunately this is probably the fourth incident when a dog in my care has done this, it’s not nice, it’s a bit better than cats I suppose.

The day carried on with a few more dramas, none so bad as the ones described above. But when we walked back to the car, we both said we will be glad when we are safely in our beds. I decided to go for a swim, I went to Agios Sostis again, I managed twenty breast strokes before I had to stop for a break. I did this several times, also treading in the water, and floating on my back. The beach wasn’t very busy at all. My attempts at coordinating my breathing while swimming, reminds me of my dad swimming in a neighbours pool, so many years  ago. I don’t remember why I wasn’t taught at the time. As he swam, my dad swallowed lots of water too, just like I do.

Afterwards, I went to the port, a couple of chores, one to go to Vasileas shop, to see if he had any more bones for us, which we get for free, remember when butchers did that? He said could I wait a minute, in Greek so I knew what he meant. He was doing an order for a taverna by the looks of it. Before he uses his butchers knife, he always sharpens it with a steel. His opening hours are very erratic, I asked how much and he said nothing in Greek. I then left the port and drove back up to Hora for a a rest.
