Two patients

It seems that one patient gets better and another gets worse at the Dog Palace today. On the phone to them last night it seemed Mavro was not long for this world, and the folks at the Palace did not know what to do, stay with him or come down to their house. As I was heading to Livadi via the ferry, I got a take away and took it up there, as they had no dinner up in the Palace. Mavro was pleased to see me, I felt good to see him, for maybe the last time. After dinner I stayed with him a bit longer but I then decided to leave him to rest. Here is a rose up at the Palace, the fragrance is amazing.

The next day, I decided to go back up there, the other helper was doing the walking, so there would be time to spend with the dogs relaxing. Mavro was there at the gate and looking a lot chipper. I spent several hours up there and drove down to do some chores. I went to the dentist, had a check up, I need a filling. I had some lunch and then drove to the new house, I had wire, to tie back the Bougainville and a spanner to unbolt the existing pergola. The pergola came down easily, the old wood was completely rotten. All the rubbish is taken away, ready for the new one. This is the house from the end of the terrace.

I then had a call from the owner of the Palace, they had suddenly had a fever and pain in their kidneys. So both of us went up there again, to finish things off and bring my friend back to their house.  They will go to the Medical Centre in the morning. Coincidentally as I was driving up the road to Hora, I picked up a young guy and dropped him at the Centre, he is to be our new junior doctor. A photo of a comfortable Rita and Max is below.

After complaining about the service I was getting with Vodaphone it’s now recovered and gone up to the 3G/4G here in Livadi and Hora. I hope they are not flicking a switch as the tourists are here and will turn it off in the autumn. I will be up at the Palace in the next three days, helping out, doing the walking. I have been trying to learn at least two new Greek words every day, ones I need and will use.

  1. More power to your elbow, Paul! You are definitely a huge help to the Dog Palace. And keep up the good work with your Greek. Two new words a day is excellent progress. I have huge admiration for your dedication. Sylvia.
