My first swimming lesson
Tuesday started less windy, and an early start meant no Coffee Shop visit, I went with my friend who runs the Dog Palace at their invitation to Agios Sostis to see how warm the sea was and take it from there. On the way over the reservoir dam, the water was amazingly still, creating a lovely reflection in the water.
After a stroll on the beach, picking a bit of litter up, including a broken plastic kettle, we paddled into the sea. It felt a bit cool to me. I had stashed my phone and bits safely away in case of accidents! The sand under my feet became a bit like quicksand and SPLOOSH! I fell over and ended up sitting in the water. My friend was swimming about now and starting teaching me to float on my back. I have no fear of water, but I could not master it. My legs were not floating properly, when I tried and pushed my head back. Eventually I twigged, my body was not straight. As soon as I straightened my back, I floated. It was amazing. I kept this up for quite a long time and found it invigorating. We drove back to my friends house, washed the sand and salt off and had another coffee and a nice slice of bread.
My next job was to pick up the keys to the new house, so I can see if I can get a quote to fix the pergola. This done, then a coffee in Grans, after which I bumped into the UK couple who I met on the Donkey path Μonday and had a chat with them. I drove up to the new house and had a look at it, it still looks good, I said hello to my new next door neighbour, and drove to the old house and unpacked my shopping. I then decided to go to the beach at Sikamia, to have a look at it, and do some Greek. It’s a windy road down to the beach, from Panagia, all zig zag and eventually you park just by the beach itself. I have walked here from Panagia, and separately done a walk from Sikamia to a very small beach around the headland. I imagine that zig zag road gets very busy in high season.
I did some Greek and fancied another dip, but I knew I had to be careful as I was on my own. I dipped myself in slowly, and it felt colder than Sostis, this time I went onto my tummy, hands on the sea floor, not very deep and kicked my legs. It was really just to get used to kicking them full time, before I worry about the front bit. I felt quite comfortable and after a while I came out and dried myself off by just standing on the beach.
Looking back inland there is a lovely view of a church, I think it’s called TaxiArches. Lovely blue and white as usual. It was also becoming cloudy, I don’t think we are to get rain however. I drove down to Hora and to the house, where I discovered my photos of the new house are a bit blurred, but I have to go back and can retake them then, in any case. I am off to the Dog Palace for the next two days, so timings of the next two days posts might be later.
