More Gifts from Greeks

Photo Interlude -  Last night in Livadi, our first meal, sitting outside

I have been a bit busy during the last two days, socialising, meeting different people, and having too much fun to record these events in this blog. There will never be enough time to mention all the things that have happened, but let’s hope I have captured the most interesting in ten minutes. I visited a friend near the port, to try and help them sort out some computer problems, unfortunately it is much more complicated than I hoped and will need more careful thought. I got some soup, from them called Trahana which smelt a bit strange, but was actually very nice as it turned out. My friend has been clearing their garden and the local goats where given  several sacks of green ‘waste’ which got eaten very quickly. During the second visit to the goats, we saw a small helicopter on the roof of a nearby house, and we saw it take off later on. Very strange, it wasn’t a huge mansion, it barely fitted on the roof.

I have been to two new tavernas, for me anyway, both which were very good. My Swiss friend who introduced me to their neighbours, we had met them at one of the new tavernas said where they live, five houses on the side of the mountain, many of which are owned by Swiss people,  are known locally as Swiss mountain. The Dutch it seems prefer to live in the port area, on flat land. Both nations adopting where they would live back home.

On the way back from the port last night, driving in convoy with two of my friends, we saw some people crossing the road to continue on the donkey track. We gave them all a lift. The person in my car, told me, they had booked a place in Hora, only to be found it did not exist! They have a replacement place now.

Photo Interlude - The funeral roll

At Marinos, yesterday he was trying to tell me about a funeral someone who had a connection to the taverna by me. The funeral was yesterday. He gave me this sweet tasting bread roll this morning, clearly relating to that funeral. I asked what the person’s name was in case one of my friends knew them. I get a free top up of the frothy cream that goes in my cold cappuccino now. After I have taken the top off it, he comes over with the remains of the frothy cream in a jug and fills my glass again. I also got this little sweet today, it was a bit like Turkish delight with a nut in its centre.

Finally on my way back to the house from the Coffee Shop, I saw the teacher, I know, I asked if they were going to their school, in Greek, no they said, were going to the museum to work today.

It’s quite funny actually, and it becomes even more so. Good for them!
