Easter Sunday

This morning after a later start than usual I fed the cats. I went to the Coffee Shop, unsurprisingly it was quiet. I got the Easter greetings of course but also I got a slice of cake, everyone seemed to get a bit. Later on he gave me a paper bag and said the word breakfast in Greek. I opened the bag and found these goodies in it.

I showed Marinos my photos from Saturday night, he knew a lot of the faces from Koutalous. I also showed him the Hora fireworks videos. On the TV there were various pieces from all over Greece, Santorini, and then a place linked to another by a huge road bridge. The name on the TV shown on the text, I could not work it out. I should have guessed. I asked where is it in Greek, Marinos said it was Evia where my Sifnos friends went to. The named place, must have been the main town. I then showed Marinos a photo of a burnt plastic bottle and a scorched area of my concrete track. He asked where it was, I think it was a home made firework!

I then got another present, this time a mini bottle of wine, from Marinos’s garden in Livadi. When I left, I told him I would drink it tonight in Greek. I thanked him again. There were more jokes about me working in his garden! Later on after some admin work, including starting to write up my next UK Horticultural newsletter and cleaning the house, I  then walked down to Livadi to meet friends for an Easter Sunday lunch,  Greek style. No pictures, sorry!

We had a super lunch, I did not have the lamb as I am fussy about eating meat off the bone, so I had Souvlaki. The table next to us, full of Ex Pats, were celebrating a birthday, and had ordered loads of celebratory cake. In any case, they were keen to have it eaten, so we had some cake as a dessert. I knew a couple of the people on that table. After the meal, I met with a couple of other friends, for a coffee, one who is going back to the mainland tomorrow. We saw the Artemis roll in, strange I thought there was no ferries today. I  then went to the last shop along the beach road, where the special chocolate biscuits  that I often have at the Dog Palace, as a treat from the owner are bought. I got a couple. On the way back to the steps up to Hora, I met the Dog Palace’s second in command and I gave him one of the chocolate biscuits as an Easter treat. I will see him tomorrow.

As all the so called Souvlaki cats are now feeding at my friends house, we are closing down that feeding station. The Souvlaki will be open soon and I am sure they don’t want cats being fed there in the summer, although cats will congregate there, as there will be tasty morsels to be had. So that’s an end to an era.

A start of a new era, is I am working on a Greek language version of this blog. Initially using Google translate but over time I hope to be able to read the Greek, and make sure it is ok. It would be good if I could write the Greek version but let’s see! One of the priests here, he is such a friendly guy, and at the moment language is a barrier at communication and I  hoping the Greek version of the blog will break down barriers and others whose first language is not English but Greek.
