Rainy Sunday
Sunday 5th March 2023
After a quick run through the rain to the Coffee Shop, I sat down ready for my usual drink. It was quite busy, a few people ready to go to church at eight am. I saw a couple of people, I know that I have not seen for a few days, so I told them I was off to the UK, today that is. I also used Google Translate to tell them and Marinos that the weather was like the UK, not as cold though. Of course the joke came out about what I should be bringing back, nope I am not doing that! When my coffee arrived, Marino had done a little clever design on the top, meant to look like a chap with a moustache he said.
The rain really tipped down, I am glad I did not put my washing out. I did put another message on my phone, saying one day “I will understand all you say”, not sure that will happen, but let’s hope I keep making progress. Marinos did ask me, and miraculously I understood, who was going to feed the cats, while I was away, well that’s what I thought he said, so I said my friends name, who is going to feed them. The words for I take and I give ( I know two versions of each ) seem to have stuck. I am travelling and spending the two weeks with one of my friends from Sifnos, their Greek is miles better than mine, I hope I can learn from their experience.
As I left, Marinos told me he would see me in two weeks and shook my hand. I also got one of his oranges. It’s really odd, I came here in September last year, not really sure what would happen, but this place has really been amazing, I could not have hoped to have met such a bunch of wonderful islanders as these. I can’t wait to see my friends in the UK, but I know I will be happy to be on my way back, to see what’s been going on.
I will be back posting when I return.
