The mountains are still dripping…
Monday 7th February 2023
So todays post might be even briefer than yesterdays. It’s very windy, but it’s going to ease slowly, it’s certainly not as windy as last night. As I did not feed the cats last night, I did that today and the car park ones. They recognise me now and come towards me like sheep to a farmer. After the cat feeding I went into Marinos, I did my Good Week for him, he replied with the same. It was quite busy in there. The pigeon came in, there was a big crumb on the floor, I broke it up and fed the bird. After he made me my coffee, I drunk a bit of the frothy top and he topped it up from the jug. The frothy milk is made cold, in a sort of metal cup that has a spinning thing dipped in it. I think I have a hand held version in the kitchen. The coffee is made, ice cubes popped in then topped off with the frothy milk. Even in this cold weather, that’s what I drink. I want something more special than my usual instant coffee at home, although I can make proper coffee here with a cafeteria jug, that my friends from Sifnos bought me.

On Facebook, my landlord put up a photo of snow in the island. It would have been high up, it was a dusting, but as there isn’t much traffic the roads were white too. I decided despite the inclement weather, I decided I would try a walk to Livadi, I did a litter picking run on the Donkey track, there wasn’t much. When I drove the new car up the road to Hora after I picked it up there did not seem much rubbish despite the wind. As I walked down to Livadi, it certainly got warmer, as it usually does, but the wind was still there. One of the friends, that I am feeding their stray cats, said I needed to go into the ACS courier folks place as there was a parcel for them, which is a present for me. I knew what it was, as my foot size had been requested. Never have it be said that I rubbish any socks bought for me. I lose one of them, I have been known to wear odd colours because of this and I wear them out. These are super strong ones, which should last a long time and are gratefully received.
I went into Grans, it was a bit later than normal for me, it was quite quiet. Looking out on the harbour there were white horses on the water, the sea must be really rough then. Ferries are not visible on Marine Watch. I had forgotten my reusable cup, and as they were quiet we had a nice long chat. The delivery guy served me, I got a freebie, which was nice, I elected to eat in. Not long afterwards the rain threw it down, so I planned to get the bus back. I had the next chapter to look at on the Greek course and an email to write. I decided to have another coffee. It seemed to be brightening up so I went out to walk up the track again. I had just got out to the far end of the flat bit of the road, and a car stopped and I was offered a lift. I must admit the weather did not look promising so I was grateful. I think he had said hello to me when I was on the Donkey track, and he was in his garden. He is a school teacher and his English was very good. He knew at least one of my other friends, and is involved in other things on the island, philanthropic if you like. He dropped me off at his house, so I did not have far to go. I got back to the house, and did a few chores. I have a lunchtime meet at Grans with a friend tomorrow I might try and walk down and up.
