Going home
Wednesday 4th January 2023
So after the meal at Camaron last night, I walked back to the apartment. I was just starting to get ready for bed and the phone rang. It was the mother of a Norwegian family we know in Oslo calling. It was a bit late but it would be good to catch up with her. Funnily enough a letter and parcel from her had been delivered to a shop near me, for us and I had picked it up before the meal. Although she had written the letter with her news and now knew we had it, I asked her some things and told her what we were up to. They are a lovely family, we are in touch with there children via Facebook and they have children of their own now. ( who we met last time we were there) Sadly their lovely Golden Retriever is no longer with them, she was truly beautiful with wonderful moon eyes. She pinched a venison joint off the kitchen table when we were there. This lady unsuccessfully tried to prise it off the dog.
This morning as I waited for my friends to pick me up, my ferry came in on the outward leg of the journey, its coming back in this afternoon. We went out shopping for an electric blanket for me and a few other things. We had a nice Spanakopita and home made spring rolls for lunch, then the dog wanted some cuddles. I then walked down to my house, a few last bits of packing and a few goodbyes to people in some shops. I feel like I used to when I still lived in the UK and was going back there, this time it’s different, but my mind hasn’t caught up with reality yet. I saw this guy working on a net, he said it was ok for me to take a photo. Island life. I have also bought myself a pack of cards, mainly so I can use them to play patience when I have a quiet moment. I have a few old TV series I want to catch up on too. ( based upon inspiring my friends)
I trundled my suitcase along the road as the thousands of tourists will do this year and did last. But I am lucky in that my ferry hop is taking me to a nearer home, a whistle stop or ferry toot away. I have things to do when I get back. Cooking a nice lunch for a friend, meeting the Greek lady whose garden I might be cultivating soon and saying hello again to all those people on Serifos, the place that I now call home. As I got on the ferry and presented my ticket, unknown to me a twenty Euros note was attached to it, the ticket collector said “no tips needed for tickets today thank you”,
Many thanks to my friends on Sifnos especially the three who live in the tiny house!

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Sifnos over the Christmas/ New Year period
