Big Washing day

 Saturday 28th January 2023

Today inexplicably, as if Hora knew I wanted to wash a lot of items, the wind is just a gentle breeze. So the sheets have been in the sun and wind and I have taken advantage to do my regular stuff as well. It’s bizarre as last night it was blowing a gale. On the way back from feeding the juveniles I went into Markelas and bought a bit more fruit. I thought it would be an idea to learn the counting, so as I bought two apples and two pears, her husband took me through it. He is a stickler for pronunciation and rightly so. There was a sort of delivery note on the pin board and he took me through the name, the locals here really want me to be able to understand them. The fruit came to something like two Euros eighty cents, the two Euros bit was easy but the eighty bit is much more complicated!

I went into Marinos for a coffee, there were several people there, I sat next to one of the guys. I used google translate to tell him the hardware store story, and he told Marinos. They laughed. We did the counting thing again, and I asked him using google translate what he did and I got his name too. He is a builder. Over time, I want to ask the other guys too. They said to me they thought it was cold, I showed them the temperature in Twyford. I got another satsuma from Marinos, I would love to see his house and garden one day. A lot of the guys don’t bother with the little biscuits they get given, Marinos must have decided I am malnourished and gives them to me now. I am cooking lunch for my walking friend today, the house has been given its weekly clean. I have saved the plastic tub the washing tablets came in, I am going to use it for food waste and take it to the dumpster every so often and wash it out afterwards. Until I do the cooking later on, I am on the roof, it’s nice and sunny and warm.

I heard from the car hire owner, he is liaising with the delivery guy, who works with him on the island. So hopefully a replacement car will be with me in the next few days.

Here are the two tubs with succulents I have grown from cuttings, the pots have tulips in them, but I think
they are not coming up now, unless they are waiting for a cool period, then a warm one  to trigger their growth. The spring onions are finished, they never really did anything, it’s too windy up here I think. The onion sets and garlic I set last year, well the onions can be seen to be swelling up, as the garlic grow underground I can’t see why is going on. If they do well, maybe a return gift for Marinos? The garlic also have the cuttings from the Mountain Sourfig. You can see my recent huge cactus cutting.

Finally, a photo of the Red Thai chicken curry I have made for my friend, this time it seems to be edible, but let’s see what they think! The coconut milk in the tin had separated, I gave it a good mix before pouring in the pan.

I had a nice surprise after my walking friend left me. Thankfully the meal tasted good and we each have a portion in our respective freezers for another day. Anyway the friend who cats I am feeding on a daily basis, rang for a chat, so we had a nice talk about the cats of course, and when  they are returning here. We also shared a bit of island gossip.
