Lockdown

Tuesday 20th December

Todays only photo, David Bowie and a different friend cuddling up, when I came back there were three of them in a furry ball.

So today is going to be a short post! It is really windy, it’s not nice to be outside at all. The only blessing is it’s not raining. The wind woke me up a few times last night and when I went outside, to feed the stray cats it was hard to stand up in places. I have given my friends neighbours some cat food so they can feed them when I am away. On the way down to Livadi at least one of the dumpsters had blown over, where one had, a big black bag had blown out of it and some of its contents were on the road. I cleared it up as best I could and put the bag back in the dumpster, with a rock leaning against its lid to keep it closed. There did not seem any point in uprighting the dumpster, for it to be blown over again. A lot of them don’t have lids, which makes a windy day even more of a menace.

I have bought myself an electric heater, I won’t need it often, but today is going to hover around twelve, but it should warm up a bit after I go. I went into the travel agency, they had not had official notification that Artemis is not sailing and he suggested I keep an eye on the ferry watcher app, the web sites and be around at nine to see if it’s going to appear! I then went to the Captains bar and the friend of a friend came in and and we introduced ourselves. As usual I am going to keep this persons name private and a lot of their details. What I can say is the person is an author, has written travel, history and novel books. To supplement their income, they also rent out their place here, and then live in a smaller property on site. The property was mentioned in the Times newspaper! That’s the best sort of advertising you can get for free! They have seen this blog, have some ideas, I could use to change it.

We had a really nice long chat, we have said we will be in touch when I get back from Sifnos. They have some ground, that I could use to grow things on. I said, I can come over and take a look. Depending on the space, we could share the produce from the space. I am going to spend the rest of the day, packing and getting ready to go tomorrow, some more Greek and Guitar, crosswords etc.

Yesterday when taking that rubbish away from the beach I was thinking about living by the sea. Before I moved here, we were not living the furthest you can be away from the sea, but it was a bit of a trek, and the kind of landscape we have here is more akin to places like Cornwall which is a very long way away. In a few minutes I can be by the sea, go and see what sort of mood it’s in. A short drive around, I can be by a sandy beach, or a rocky outcrop. We don’t see a lot of vessels on the sea at this time of year, but I like to watch the ferries come and go, dropping off people and cargo. I can see a lot of other islands, as you travel around this one, you see different islands, each is different and identifiable from here. I have not visited them all, but I know each has its own identity, different architecture, lifestyles, tourism impact, even weather!

The wind should have dropped by tomorrow, if I don’t get the morning ferry, I might do a walk to get out after todays enforced internment!
