Christmas Day
Sunday December 25th
Last night, we had an amazing four course dinner at another friends house. Beautiful presentation and tasty food. The food was punctuated by yet another card game, this game was called Phase Eight. It’s highly competitive, but I think the other card game was more fun. I am hopelessly uncompetitive! I got back home just before midnight. I have had more Christmas greetings from various people, which is great. After getting up, I had a phone call with my friend from Singapore. He was working. After this, I wandered to my friends house and took their dog out for a fairly short walk compared to yesterdays wanderings.
We did a slightly modified version of the loop walk, as it’s called. There were not many people about. I went back to my house and changed into something more respectable and walked the dog back to his house. There was a friend was visiting with some presents. The Artemis ferry came in, I am not sure how many people would have got on our off. My next job was to go and get some wild thyme from the nearby mountain, for the meal. It’s not grown very much and most of it is still bare twigs, but I got enough for the meal. Someone had lit a BBQ for a Christmas meal nearby. Back at the house, I was just relaxing, helping when I can. I have opened my presents and a couple of cards.
Our other friends arrived after lunchtime and as a couple of them did not know each other there was a bit of introducing to do. But everyone really made the afternoon and early evening special. It’s a shame a few other people could not be there, but our little group just had that magic ingredient, where there was friendly conversation and fun not forgetting the main event, the meal itself. We had a starter of a Greek soup brought along by one friend, they also brought some pastries, the ones they sell at Christmas. We were treated to four rib beef, dauphinois potatoes, cauliflower cheese and peas and carrots. I am not normally a super fan of beef, but this was very good. It was finished off with a UK supplied Christmas pudding, with the lit brandy treatment. Probably too much wine, but the food hopefully soaked it up.
One of our guests brought their dog along, who had a festive knitted jumper on him. He got on well with the resident dog, they have met before. I got a lovely hand made stone fridge magnet that I will put on my fridge when I get home.
All too soon, it was time to go home and see what tomorrow brings. I hope you all have had a good Christmas Day.
