Boxing Day

 Monday December 26th

So after a busy morning I am sitting on the other side of the bay from our houses, in the sun, twenty degrees? It’s so peaceful, the only sounds I can hear are dogs  barking, a few faint voices and the sea lapping up against the walls here.   Very very occasionally there will be the sound. of a motorised vehicle.

This morning I walked to my friends house and picked up the dog, he is getting used to these Paul turns up and I get a walk now, so as soon as I fished his lead out, he was running around like a crazy half Spaniel that he is. We headed to the house of one person  who was with us last night, as we had agreed to walk to Apollonia by way of the road today. It’s a walk of about five kilometres. It was sunny but for parts of the walk, the sun was not high  enough to escape the sun block of the mountains. There wasn’t much traffic about, the dog again being half Spaniel always wanted to be on the part of the road, he wasn’t currently on. There was also the needed watering of places on route too.

Even if you are not driving, but in a car,  you get a different perspective of the countryside around you if you are walking. Looking down into the dried river bed where I walked with the dog the other day is interesting. It’s looks as green as England does in the spring. Above us we passed a set of craggy tops, that had been trimmed back, to get rid of dangerous overhanging bits of rock, that might fall onto an car one day.

Then the dog owners came along in their car, I knew they were headed in this direction. We agreed to keep in touch and have a coffee in Apollonia together if we could. We carried on with more lovely views both up and down. It’s not a steep path at all and occasionally we would be bathed in sun. Eventually Apollonia started to appear, and then the turn off to take the path back to Kamares. We carried on however, we then met our friends in their car again, they then parked up and we all walked to an old coffee shop like the one I have in Hora.

We ordered our drinks, I got some more water for the dog, I had his proper bowl today, but his water bottle was now empty. The loos are in a garden, where the owner looks like he it’s recycling stuff.

After finishing off, we walked back to the car and three of us went back to the house and had some “bits and pieces” that you often have after a celebratory meal. A little while later, I walked back to my temporary abode and after typing this in, I will do some Greek and relax before freshening up and going back to my friends house, for a dinner of more bits and pieces.

Final photo - Dog and Donkey on the road today

I do appreciate I am so lucky to be here, to have friends on these two islands, who are showing fantastic hospitality. Thanks to them !
