Tour Guide for the morning

Wednesday 22nd November

Another lovely sunrise this morning, on the way to feeding the cats. There were several people in Marinos coffee shop, I will be popping in soon. I also saw several peoples and we exchanged hellos. It’s going to be a lovely day.

Feeding the cats, this is the second time a kitten imposter has been turning up. I am letting it stay, as it looks underfed and it’s coat is in bad condition. I have told the person who normally feeds these cats. The other cats don’t seem to mind it. Last night we all went to a restaurant, that  I had not been to, with three of my friends, one of whom is going to Athens for the winter today. We got free Taramasalata from the place, I think it’s the best I have ever tasted  and the good news is, it’s open all year. The owner seems prepared to help with my Greek, and put up with my dodgy attempts! I have got some nice gifts, as a thank you for helping my friend with the shop and the house. I will be helping load up the car today, including the cats.

I took my cat sitting friend on a trip to Mega Livadi. It’s interesting when you do this, for a place you know, because I think you see more and go to places that you might not have investigated yourself. Your friend might say, “what’s down there?” So this happened with this person today. We walked on a level, above the beach, I had not walked on before. But before we did that, we saw the church was open and we popped in. It was being cleaned by an old Greek lady, she tried to speak to us, but it didn’t work well! We lit a candle each, she did not want money for it, but I left it there anyway. Annoyingly I took a photo her in the door but the photo was an abject failure!  We then walked on that level I described.
.

We then saw a hole, a mine shaft. It’s not behind doors and it’s one of those which people go in, unadvisedly I think. We did not but because my phone has the nifty LDAR sensor I got a decent photo. You can see the train tracks.

We then explored the rest of that level  and went to a part of the village I had not seen, there was a new children’s play area which was good to see. The houses were very pretty, this one was especially nice. We said hello to its owner, who was sitting outside enjoying the sun.

We then went down to the beach. My friend had a look at the miner’s memorial, I told him as much about the story of the mine as I know. Behind us they were working on the Administration building, it’s now had a layer of render on most of its outside, I wonder how far the restoration will go, will it be waterproof? A museum to the mine would be brilliant. We then walked back to the other side of the beach and up to the level I knew and had a walk around.
