Sunrise snd Sunset

Monday 14th November

Today was my first morning of the stray cat feeding duty. I threw some clothes on and walked up to the Souvlaki place where the cats are fed. This time all four cats were present, ( one was missing last night)  and a pretender, who fancied its chances! I put out the food and gently persuaded the pretender to let my four charges have first dibs on the food. There will be plenty of dried stuff left, but I wanted the kittens and their mum, have their fair share of the wet food I had put out. I changed the water and left them to it, after updating the holidaying carer with a photo .

On the way back to the house, there was a lovely sunrise, to capture.

After my Greek and  Guitar for the day, It was time to walk down to Livadi on the path and do my litter picking. I am moving through the chapters of the Greek course quite well, I think the Michel Thomas way seems to work for me, I feel I have a small core of Greek words in my head, I will do a new chapter later today. There are usually about four of five words in each chapter which doesn’t sound many, but they to mix the new words with ones you already know, to try and get the words in your head.

Photo interlude, here is my map of Serifos, with the paths and roads marked, that I have done.

The litter picking went well, I don’t have the problem of my bucket filling  up, before a dumpster appears on the road,  so it can be emptied. I can now pick up the annoying little things now like the blue water bottle tops that people throw away instead of leaving them on the bottle. I found more Euros, this time on the road, only a fiver this time, that’s payement for my time picking up other people’s rubbish! I met a couple just outside Livadi and they said “bravo” which was very kind of them. It’s not so nice now and quite overcast. A week after the rain, there is lots of grass coming up, all those seeds that were lying dormant, have sprung into life. In a few weeks the island is going to change colour quite dramatically. It looks like we are going to get some more rain soon. The weather reminds me of the Scilly isles where we had a holiday on the island of Bryer, when if you had rain, it blew over in twenty four hours, leaving you with blue skies the next day. When I walked back on the road doing my duty, the field where there were piles of rubbish have all been burnt, I thought. I saw smoke from that area a couple of days ago.

When I got back, I went to Markela’s and bought a cold drink, I heard English and I said hello and introduced myself. So I met a young English couple who are living and working here a month. I have offered my help, they can borrow my map and look at my blog and see if they find it useful. As usual this island seems to throw up surprises as soon as I pop my head out of the door!

I went to Mega Livadi, for late afternoon,  I did not  expect the taverna on the beach to be open, so after the sunset moment, I  drove back to Livadi and had a meal there.
