Room with a view
Thursday 24th November
The below photo is a view outside of one of my windows. I slept in today as I woke very early, but I managed to drop off again. We had more rain last night. The view is nice, I actually like the effect the insect screen has on the photo, it sort of makes it look like it’s been painted and not a photo.
Photo interlude - The greening of Hora’s hills
I have got past the feminine side of the language, so I am onto the next chapter. I have a typed in version of the English and the Greek version of the phrases to use as a quick reference. I also have an English only version of this, so I can use it as a quick test of my knowledge, instead of going through the audiobook, which is a lot slower. I often do this in Livadi by the harbour. On the guitar front I am doing my finger exercise and instead of using the two finger “dirty G” as a chord, I am trying to make myself use the three fingered “true”version, as I do my practice. It’s not too hard and even with the current state of my inflexible fingers I can just about do it. I have a draft copy of my next instalment to the Twyford and Ruscombe Horticultural Newsletter, where I describe my progress in terms of growing things and what the island is like during each months worth of instalments. The succulent I have successfully reared from two cuttings is known as a Mountain Sourfig I have seen these in California as well.
We did the reservoir walk and I think the Cat Sitter enjoyed it. The lovely green mountains, the sort of fresh feeling you get after rain has fallen. It was quite warm, I think it was easily in the early twenties. When we got to the reservoir it did not seem as if it was fuller, but it’s hard to tell. We walked across the dam and then into Livadi, via the road, then the track past the real football pitch.
In Livadi we ate in Passaggio again and it was very good. They do breakfasts from seven am! That’s a long day. The cat sitter decided to take the last bus back at two fifteen. I had got my pills and a few other things from the chemist and celery and carrots for the Chick pea stew. I met another friend in Livadi and had a chat with him. I walked up the path to Hora, the offcuts of cable left behind by the electricity team, have been removed, which is good. I am back in the house now, having a rest, and will start to boil the chick peas, they have swollen up and need a good cook. It’s been another good day! ( Below - view from the restaurant )

A lovely read again Paul.
