Power cut!
Sunday 27th November
This sign was put up a few days ago and this must relate to the recent work on the poles by the path to Livadi. On my way down there, on the road today there were men up the poles working. The power went off bang on the dot of eight o’clock.
I fed the cats, everyone was there, including the kitten with no name. I had my breakfast, cleaned the house and drove down to Livadi. I realised all the supermarkets are now closed on Sundays and why not? I went into the bakers and ordered a coffee. I tried a “Eisthe Kala?”, and I got a favourable response. It’s one of the ways you can ask in Greek, how they are doing. I might try it again. I had the coffee and drove to pick up my two friends from Slovenia. I have chatted to them a bit, but I hoped to get to know them better while they are here. They were kind enough to offer to help me do some more work on Ganema beach. I was to do the bank, where people park and throw out rubbish from their cars. I was hoping to do further down, as it drops down to the sea too. They were going to do the bit at the back of the beach, where the wall is, and a beach bar in summer. Near the end of the work, I was on the road and this truck stopped by me, this huge Greek leant out, and asked me what my name was, he had heard all about me he said.I told him, he told me his, and he shook my hand and said thanks. If only we could get more locals to help us clean things up. I will see if I can find a way to get locals involved, but I don’t want to upset the relationship I have with this island.
My friends have a cafe they like, so we went there after unloading our rubbish. They each had a crepe, one sweet, one savoury. I had a nice ham and turkey sandwich. We had a nice relaxing long lunch, as we would call it in the UK, I think we got to know each other really well. We plan to do a walk together soon, which will be nice. As we left, we met two more of my friends who were walking along Livadi beach. We had a quick chat and then went our separate ways. I drove back to Hora, made the meal for tonight’s guest, the cat sitter I have been meeting. The electricity is back on, which is great. A lovely day.
