Locked out
Saturday 19th November
Last night after feeding the cat, I walked home. Another crazy Serifos moment, maybe they happen, because it is so small and the bush telegraph is very efficient here, but in a nice way! As I walked past the supermarket, there was a lady by a 4x4, and she looked at me and after I said “hello”, she said “are you the Englishman who picks up litter?” “Yes”. So we had a chat, and she said everyone is talking about me, and how good it was, and she likes driving the Hora road, now it looks so clean. She then asked me about dog sitting, I think it’s known I did that in the UK. Anyway she runs a dog rescue place and she is looking for someone to help in the summer. I said I would be away in July and August, “oh no” she said! Well I said I might be able to help in the other months. She is now away for a couple of weeks, I said I will ring her after then, and go and see her. Unlike the lady on Andros who does a similar thing, she has no webpage, Facebook page that I can display here. If I help, I get free board and lodging. Here is one of the kittens. I am feeding. It has a dodgy eye unfortunately, it has been treated, may have to go and see the vet again.
After I got home, my friend knocked on my door. He was locked out of the house he was staying in. It’s one of those doors where once the door closes you are locked out. He had got hold of a spare key, but because the original key was in the rear of the door, the key would not open the door. There are no windows or other doors to this house. To cut a long story short, a friend of the houses owner got a clever guy to come in and open it. He puts the key in and because the key on the other side is just in, and not locking the door, a gentle tap with a hammer on the key, knocks the key out of the rear of the door lock and the key now unlocks the door. Phew!
After all of this, two of us walked into Livadi to do some more hardware shopping. On the way we saw this painting in a building being renovated.
Later on we saw a lovely wooden box enclosing the electric meter, with I think having words saying love Serifos or some thing like that.
After we got to Livadi, we had a coffee and as it was hot in Grans, we sat outside and drank it. We both wanted something for lunch, we went into another cafe, nearly ordered, then my friend said, I fancy a burger at the Captains. I was up for it, so off we went. It was really nice and as we looked out there were clouds rolling over Hora, but as they approached its summit, they seemed to climb above the peak and avoid hitting it. What causes that wonder ?
We walked back up the path, it’s wasn’t too hot as it was windy, as usual the higher you get the windier it becomes. Last photo a volcano effect back at the house.
