In the dentists chair and about
Thursday November 10th
I met the person who feeds the stray cats, there is a little community of people who do this. I am going to be looking after two adults and two kittens, their mother is one of the adults. She has just been spayed. I start my duties on Sunday afternoon. One thing I did learn is that the glass recycling also caters for tins which is excellent news. The blue recycling bin does not have labels to indicate this, but there are tins in there. One thing I have noticed is there are a few low profile bonfires going on now, I think they can only have them after a period of rain in the autumn. Although smoke is not healthy it’s a nice reminder of autumn days in the UK. I have done the Greek language summary chapter again, I think I made a better job of it, on the larger sentence constructions, I do keep missing a word off. I listened to the following chapter, and did some guitar of course.
Photo interlude - cat sitting on car roof in Hora’s car park where I will probably leave the car instead of the track by the house.
Second photo interlude- I met this dog on my walk down to pick up the hire car today. He barked at me a lot.
My dentist visit last night was a success. I walked down to Livadi and beyond it is a sort of tourist village called Livadikia which was all closed up and quiet. I remembered where the dentist was, and I filled in the usual medical questionnaire. The dentist is a young girl who spends some of her time here in the island. She gave my teeth a good clean, at the end instead of the usual polish, I was treated to this sort of mini high pressure hose treatment that finishes the cleaning process off. On the wall was this interesting clock still in summer time mode.
I did mention my damaged tooth, the top fell off it a year or so ago, it was replaced, but bits keep falling off it and this leaves sharp edges. She gave it an x ray, she was honest in saying she did not want to remove the top as it might cause more trouble, but would have a go next time. UK dentists would probably want to do bc an implant at enormous cost!
By now it was getting dark and I wandered to the taverna and had dinner. I think given that a lot of places are closed and there isn’t anybody in the rooms to let, the cats are congregating in bigger numbers in the places that are still open.
In the morning, I walked down and picked up the hire car, on the way I could see patches of grass growing after the recent rains. I decided to drive to Vaglia beach. I had the place to myself. It’s on the way to Mega Livadi. I will spend a day at each of these places, and make sure I explore them properly. What I want to make sure is that each day I walk a similar amount as I was before I got the car.
Vagia beach has large pebbles, large and regular grain sands. Across the bay is Koutalas where we went with Ronnie and his Sifnos owners.
After the beach I walked to a local church Konstantinos which had a nearby pomegranate tree and a little stream.
I went up another track where a path is meant to carry on but it’s not there. Behind the beach are what they call boutique rooms. One of the complexes was built into the ground, which looked a bit odd. I am going to mark the paths and tracks which are there and I have been on and the churches. Last photo is a local frog I snapped last night
