A walk with friends
Wednesday 17th November
This time of year, with cloud, which sometimes gets burnt off, means we have a different early morning daily spectacle. This day we had pastel pinks, and fluffy clouds. Behind the house the clouds were darker and more menacing but the forecast was for a nice day. The cats have been fed, after last night when the kittens did not show, I was worried, but they are back today, and another cat who barged in, got a sideswipe of a paw and went away.
The dentist visit went well, I now have a repaired tooth, hopefully it will remain so, but the dentist did warn me that it might break again, so will need a crown. We had a shower mid morning, but unfortunately I did not see a rainbow, that would have been special, another time maybe. For the Greek language course the new Chapter only had a few new words, so I went onto the chapter after that, and it’s now about words that can be feminine, masculine or neuter. The words like sandwich and ouzo that we have used so far are neutral, to avoid the gender complication. So when you ask for a beer or talk about it, words like “enna” change to suit the gender. It sounds like the tricky thing will be to decide what gender each thing is!
On the guitar front, I have been looking at finger exercises trying to improve the flexibility and speed. At the moment I am only using two fingers, I tried a three finger one chord, just to see how it went and I could not reach all the three string positions indicated. I tried some others with the same effect. I have a long journey to go!
In the afternoon myself and three friends walked to this church. I have seen it before, on one of my walks with Ronnie. This church I think is called Aghios Ionassis Prodromos.
We parked just off the Mega Livadi road that goes to Panagia and walked along a delightful track with those crocus and hardy perennial bushes, some herbs, some just flowering shrubs. All are starting to regrow, and like the rest of the island, going very green. There was no grass here, but still things are growing again after the heat of summer. There were lovely views of Kithnos by the time we got to the church and it was nice doing the walk with three other people, two that I did not know very well, so I spent a lot of time talking to them as well as the friend I knew. I find it quite amazing, it’s like Mr Bean being dropped onto an unsuspecting Earth his quirky behaviour and the people he interacts with. I am no Mr Bean, I hope but when I landed here two months ago, I never dreamed I would be doing a walk like todays. This doesn’t mean I don’t value my friends in Twyford or elsewhere in the UK anymore, it’s just like moving to another part of the UK, like people do every day, it’s just the small matter, that it’s a little further away than most people travel when they move! You just never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. That’s the magic.
