Thursday goodbyes

Thursday 6th October - Hora and Livadi

I picked up my friends from the port yesterday afternoon. It was very windy. Ronnie’s ears were being blown upright, so they looked like husky ears. Thankfully their ferry wasn’t cancelled. We drove back up to the New House as we have decided to call it. In the evening we went for a drink at Vasileas’s place but ended up staying a bit longer, as the Taverna we were going to was inexplicably closed. We bought a couple of pizzas from the supermarket and had them later on. At least I have proved the oven works!

In the morning I gave Ronnie his last walk with me, we did a loop that we developed the other day and we had a nice sunrise.

After breakfast, we went to the Garden  Centre and bought some compost for the pots here. I should say the spring onions have not germinated especially well, and I don’t think they like the wind. The Geranium cutting is not looking so clever either. My friends had an interesting meeting at eleven in Livadi, with this lady who is involved in cat neutering. It was good to hear that they are using a modern technique that uses keyhole surgery so the post operation care is minimised. The locals she works with on Serifos are very well organised and they think the cat population is under control. Unfortunately  on Sifnos the situation is very complicated and not under control. Mike is involved with the locals in the island to try and control the situation, I think he has his work cut out! The lady invited me to see them at work, she is talking to children at school tomorrow about why we do cat neutering, so it will be Saturday when I meet up with them.

After the meeting, it was time to see my friends off and walk up the mountain to the Medical Centre to meet the visiting doctor about my ongoing medication. This went really well and although there might be a monthly review, I have no problem with that. I will have to pay for the pills. I then carried on walking to the New House.

Ronnie, bless him has left his mark on this house. It’s good I have tiled floors. There are loads of fur balls all over the place, I have swept them up, I think it will take a few days to eliminate it.

I did spend a bit of time with Mike about the Vodaphone bill business, I think I will still have to visit the shop, I need to think about a heated blanket, my upcoming visit to Syros might give me time to do that. I have my tulip bulbs to plant, and get ready for travelling to Syros Sunday night.

I think most of the tourists have gone now, it means you can see the locals a bit more clearly now! When we were meeting the cat lady, the guy who runs the Car Hire place I used first time I was here, came over to our table for a chat.
