Three for the price of two. ( beaches that is)

Sunday 9th October Hora, Sostis and Lia beaches

Despite the wind I planted the tulips in the square tubs yesterday and also filled the two new rectangular troughs. I think I have made a mistake with my choice of tulips, I fear they will be blown to bits! The  new troughs, I put on the roof, I dampened the compost to avoid it being blown about. I need to think if I can build some kind of transparent wind baffle to protect plants from the wind when they are tall.

I had a WhatsApp chat with Father Daniel. We are going to meet for a coffee soon. He has told me there is a church festival in early November that I can go to. The trouble is it is a long way away. I will measure the distance and see if I could hire a cycle. I fear the hire place closes after October.

Somehow after speaking to Vodaphone, I got some money on the second SIM card I use for my Wi-Fi in the house. This being so, on the day of renewal, I have to select  packages for each. The good news is the Google app has a Greek language to English translation and as you navigate the pages you get the Greek translated into English. Mind you, I am so used to using those pages, I pretty much know what is on screen.

Picture interlude. This was on a wall in Kato Hora. It’s paint and stones.

I watched the first two parts of Crossfire series on iplayer. The problem I had where I can’t direct the ipad onto the TV, using Chromecast when using the vpn, is not actually related to that. If I download a program to watch, using vpn then try and watch it, I see the same problem. YouTube works though. I tried googling the problem did not spot anything helpful. I spoke to Mike later on and we have some more ideas…

I listened to the delayed F1 race in Japan and cleaned the house while I was waiting for it to start. Before I left the house I mopped the floor so it could dry while I was away. I walked down to Marinos to have a coffee first, and started removing the litter from our little road. At the coffee shop, there were two young ladies outside in the sun. After a while I sat with them. They were both Swiss, living in Basel. They live in this old house with others, one is about to start an internship, the other is still studying. Here they were staying in a place owned by a friend, but I think they were finding Serifos a bit quiet! I suggested they could try Sifnos, it’s not far away.  But we had a nice chat.

I then headed off, down to the church with the graveyard and then the reservoir. Both beaches I wanted to go to are on the Eastern side of the island, quite nearby. I had a nice view of a beach I know on the way to Sostis, and a nice view of Hora and another mountain behind me. Sostis is actually two beaches with a rocky promontory between them. There is a church on the rock. There were two couples there plus me. This is the second beach.

The church is very pretty, locked of course, beyond it was another area of rock you could walk over plus a little platform to jump into the sea from. I had a little paddle, the water was nice and cool.

I then headed off to beach Lia. This beach, is by an accommodation complex and the path has been diverted around the side of it, which is a bit overgrown. Anyway the beach is lovely, someone had planted three stones upright in the shingle. The little island in the distance is known as Bouc.

At the side of the main beach was a little cove, so I took my sandals off and walked to the cove through the sea. I then sat on a big rock and dangled my legs in the water. I reflected that on this island, are rocks of different colours and it must be a geologists dream! Eventually I walked back to the main beach and then towards the track. However there was a load of rustling noises and soon it was clear a flock of goats were munching on the foliage. I managed to get a few good photos of them, they did not seem as shy as usual.

I then carried  on to the road and then Livadi. There I had a refreshment and a rest watching a Zante ferry come in. There were two Cormorants feeding in the water. There is no bus service at the weekends and I was too late for the last bus anyway.  I walked up my four hundred steps, half way up I saw the Swiss ladies again.
