Strumming

Friday October 21st - Hora and Livadi

I ran out of time yesterday. By the time I did most the things I planned and had my chat with a friend in Twyford, it was time to make dinner and relax. I have decided to change my day, so that I do the guitar and Greek in the morning, after I get up. This means there is a better chance I get around to do them ( I didn’t yesterday) and if I do them in the morning before I go out, I should be more awake, unlike the afternoons, when I can be  a bit tired after a walk.

This photo was taken in the morning of course. The windmills that are rented out, are empty now, so I felt comfortable taking photos from their gardens. Before we get the mid twenties, we have a day or two of strong winds, but dry still.

I did my Greek, a couple of mistakes on Chapter two and three. I then tuned the guitar using the magic tuner, it is such a clever device. I have found two sources of beginner information that I am going to use. The first is a good initial resource place, it has links to various other places to go. It does teach you the basics, like the string notes, theory of chords and so on. It also has links to favourite YouTube channels, the one I picked  is very basic, but that’s where I am. He starts with an E Minor chord, that he strums D D D U D U D U, this is Down, Down, Down, Up etc. The chord is using two fingers on adjacent strings. After this he has two other chords, that are close and easy to switch to, again using two fingers. At the end of it my fingers were very sore! You have to press hard enough, so you don’t get a buzz noise, your fingers mustn’t obstruct other strings, else that will deaden them. You have to pick each string, to see if you are in the right place. Strumming is a challenge, you have to get all the strings, not missing them out. Eventually you have to stop, because you need a rest! Practice makes perfect. I am going read the theory bit too.

I walked to Markela and Den’s place for mushrooms and potatoes, for sausages in red wine for tonight. I have all the other things. I will only make, enough for one meal. I will use the rest of the mushrooms this week. I had noticed  Marinos coffee shop has been closed for a couple of days, Markela says he is on holiday. She was eating olives and cherry tomatoes.  After this I walked down the road, with the litter picker to finish that off.  I am not looking to clean every road on the island , I will just do the ones that I go along and every so often.

On the way back up the hill, I spotted this plant. It has blackberry type berries and wonderful flowers. I am going to have to find out what it is!
