Gardener for a day
26th October - Hora and Livadi
I walked down to Livadi, with compost in mind again. I should have bought more when I had Mike’s car. I have courgette and squash seeds, I also should have sowed some of those seeds a month ago. Never mind. I will just sow one of each, in each of the bags, let’s see how far they get. I walked down the slip road and then along the beach. When I got to to the bakers, they had my favourite pie, and I sat down to eat one in full view of the port and harbour. This is the view from the bakers and the pie.
As I ate my lunch, there was a commotion. The yellow lab, that I am sure comes from the other Real Estate shop was barking at a dog in a van. It was really going for it. Eventually it gave up and wandered off with its tail in the air, like, it was top dog, which it probably is! As the next bus was twelve, I had plenty of time to wander around the harbour and take in the scene. There was no ferry due in. Here is the dog when it came to say hello to me later on, it was very friendly as it turns out!
One thing I have got clear, is large items left by the dumpsters, eventually get taken away. I think it depends on how big they are and how full the tip lorry is getting. Given everything goes in a hole in the ground, I wonder wether in years to come, the tip gets excavated for the aluminium and plastic in the soil. It is happening in some parts of the world. The steel would have rusted through probably.
When I went to the garden centre I got my compost, I asked about the yellow flower, but it seems a mystery , the lady said it was a nature plant. I have found some examples of it with leaves on. On my way back, I saw this lovely Vespa.
While waiting for the bus, the children were doing their practice march for Friday. I wonder wether they will be dressed up? I got a bit of a funny look boarding the bus with my two bags, but they were clean and not leaking. If he wanted, I would have put them in the boot of the bus.
I just had to carry them up the hill from where the bus stopped, I waved to Vasileas who was in his bar, I did the see person who runs 100%, but I was on the bus, so I did not expect a wave. I have noticed that ladies on their own who I meet, a lot of them don’t return my greeting, but most of the older generation do.
The seeds are sown, in this heat the onions and garlic need watering every day . I have done my Greek and Guitar and I listened to the next chapter, the only word I remember from that is for “I buy”. The good thing is depending on how you use it, you tack on a different ending, for “you buy” and so on. It’s is getting complicated!
I am having a freezer meal tonight, then tomorrow making the butter nut squash and chick pea curry. I may be sharing it, that’s not confirmed yet. It’s a pity I brought the umbrella down, it could be used now. Lots of things to remember next year,!
Footnote. I sent the yellow flower plant photo to the TRHA Newsletter Editor, he reckons it is a Tuberous Hawkebit, popular name Bulbous Dandelion ( Picture This app). I have also sent me monthly Newsletter item to him.
