Another lazy day…

 Monday 24th October - Hora

I had a bit of late night last night. I went down to Livadi after a lovely chat with two neighbours who live next door in Twyford.  It was chucking it down with rain for them, for me it was heading to a nice mid twenties sunny day. On my walk down,  I did go past a house with a large garden with loads of trees with oranges and lemons hanging on the branches, in various stages of changing colour. The lemons were huge, like the ones you get in Amalfi. Once in Livadi, I went to that little cove by the port, keeping an eye on incoming ferries, I did not want a drenching again.

I could see a ferry was coming in, as there were several lorries that were parked at the port. Sure enough the Marine Tracker, showed the Dionisios Solomos was heading from Sifnos. As it was manoeuvring I looked at the Greek letters forming it’s name, I haven’t attempted to learn the alphabet yet.

I videoed a Timelapse of the ferry approaching the island and reversing in, so it’s stern door could be lowered on the port concrete apron. Unfortunately the video is a bit too big to be attached here. The wave the ferry created wasn’t as bad as the one the Sea Jet made, when I got a drenching. I climbed out of the cove, and did another time lapse of the cars and lorries boarding. Speeded up both videos look quite fun.  I had a call with one of my Sifnos friends coming up, so I walked towards the bakers  to use their Wi-Fi ( they were closed) to do the call. On the way I  saw three ladies from the Medical Centre that I know sitting down having a coffee. I had a nice chat with them, having to leave them, because I had my call.

Afterwards, I decided to have dinner in Livadi and went to a Taverna I have been to before. While there I got talking to a couple of people, one who has a shop in Hora and produces the map that is really a great guide to the island. I am going to the shop today as there are some interesting T shirts. I got some very interesting thoughts on the island, they have had water shortages in the summer, due to the ever increasing numbers of tourists. It also looks like I might never get to eat at the Thai restaurant, as they only open in July and August, when I won’t be here. I learnt a bit about the history of the house I live in, it was a complete ruin when it was taken on.

I have looked up for one of my neighbours as he was interested where the island gets its water from. There are boreholes, and water abstraction are both feed into a network which includes storage tanks. We also know the reservoir is used for agriculture taking the load off the boreholes After dinner  I ended up walking back up the path to Hora, in the dark, but  most of it was lit, where it wasn’t, I used my phone torch.

In the morning, I checked my sheets, as they had been left on the washing line all night, they were nice and dry. They are all packed away now.  After breakfast, it was time for Greek and Guitar. I have had an email from the second guy at the guitar shop, saying he was more than happy to help me, and that my choice of YouTube channel was a good one. I had made my dinner for last night before I decided to eat in Livadi, which was chicken in passata, with onions and mushrooms, which I have frozen as I am in Livadi tonight meeting friends again.

On the way to the shop this morning a lack of two wheeled vehicles, meant I could see this water fountain., which sadly is not working

I met my friend in her shop, it’s full of all sorts of lovely things, all hand made. The T shirt I chose wasn’t the Medusa one, I don’t want people to worry about looking at me, because I have a Medusa head on me! So I decided on this one. It’s white, so I will have to be careful when I am eating…

Apart from the main design on the front, there is a smaller one, on the back at the bottom. I have folded the t shirt so you can see this. It’s a nice touch, it makes it more complicated to make, but it’s unique as a design, which I like. I have been sunning  myself on the rooftop today, and will walk down to Livadi later on.
