A hot sunny Tuesday

 Tuesday 25th October - Hora

So last night, I walked down to Livadi and before eating my meal, I took some photos of the harbour area. The meal was really good, it was a slow roasted pork which I had with a Greek salad. The taverna is a new one to me, had been recommended and is open until the end of December! It’sThat’s good news! It’s called Marina. I could see the Dionisios Solomos was coming in again and the port became temporarily busy with road traffic. I could also heard  the ferry arrive.

After my meal, I walked back up to Hora and had a drink in Vasileas bar, it’s was really empty, and when the supermarket closed opposite, Hora seemed very quiet too. I think they are closing at nine now, instead of ten. I have been looking for coconut milk for ages now and I got the last tin on the island last night from there. This is for the Butternut Squash and chick pea curry. It’s kedgeree tonight.

After sitting out in the sun, I then did a walk down the path to Livadi. I had my litter picker and the path is now clean. It’s a path used by tourists and locals and I think its condition says something about the island. When I got to the  bottom I went back up by the the road repeating my efforts to clean things up. Both won’t need doing for a while now, so, I can put the picker away and not get tempted to do other roads or paths.

On my journey, I saw Den on his quad bike twice, I saw Vasileas driving his bar assistant down  towards Livadi, my friend who runs the 100% shop  and the Medical staff driving from the Medical centre after their days work. I thought that’s fantastic, all these people I know, most will be here all year, and if I walked into Twyford village from our house, I would be lucky if I saw a similar number of friends! Not bad for a few weeks living here.

It was very hot and I should mention a little victory over the Greek language. I had run out of water in my dog patterned bottle and  when I got to the ceramic shop I saw the stable door was half open. I ran through what I was going to say. I said hello, then asked if I could have some water please, pointing to the top of the bottle. The lady understood,  topped it up and I said thank you. I know a bit and I can use it as long as I can run it through my head first of all! It was only when I got to Hora that there was any wind and then it was just a gentle breeze.

As a footnote, one of my friends on Sifnos said to me it’s a bank holiday Friday, so everything will be closed, be ready for that. Also there might be children parading in Livadi. I will go down and see what is going on.  Below is the Kedgeree, onions, boiled egg and fish, with rice, before the application of the Ketchup!
