Windy night

Friday night 16th September Hora

So tonight’s meal has been spaghetti carbonara with a Greek sausage twist. I used a sausage of theirs with the usual mushrooms and onion. After cooking these and the spaghetti I stirred in two beaten eggs and hey presto!

It was actually very good. I had frozen half of the sausage for next time. I was listening to More or Less on BBC Sounds and it started breaking up. Of course it’s windy. It eventually gave up. I took the huge parasol down tonight as I don’t want it to snap off.

So my Greek lesson went quite well. It’s the Michael Thomas method. It’s quite clever, if you follow it as it sort of builds up on simple phrases and then adds variations. I was quite pleased with myself and went over chapter two several times. A hour later could I remember any of the new words? No chance! I went over chapter two again in the hope it would refresh my memory but no good. I will go over it again tomorrow.

I had to go to the supermarket to get an onion for tonight’s meal and the husband and wife were asking me about the days of the week in English, they knew Monday. Then they wanted to know the seasons. Next time I think I will have to get done lessons off them!

At about a quarter to six in the evening a truck comes along and parks by the house. Four people tumble out. They all work at next doors taverna. I will book a table there for tomorrow night.

I am having a treat and a beer or two in the traditional bar in the village. The owner is serving today, with an eclectic mixture of music playing. The taxi lady with the SUV appears, I ask her is she takes dogs, sadly not Ronnie!

By the bar  is an electric transformer sitting on top of two wooden posts. It’s been sparking every so often alarmingly. It’s like when you see smoke coming out of a F1 car you know the engine is going to give up. I asked the bar the owner about it and he just shrugged! I must ask his name. He knows the UK well and had been to our major cities. The good news is he is open all year.

The priest has just  come into the bar with this guy who sounds like Keith Richards.. Then two ladies pop in, one of them has blonde hair and panda eyes like Dusty Springfield. The transformer has just gone pop again and it’s causing much merriment.

As it got darker I noticed above Marino’s coffee bar, a stationary non blinking object in the heavens. Time to try out my new star watcher app. It’s Jupiter! That’s very clever but what would be more so is to understand what it’s doing there. Unfortunately Jupiter does not appear in this photo.

A sad footnote. When I walked back after buying my onion this afternoon I spotted a squished frog on the road. It was the same as the one I saw by the Wash House. It’s doubly ironic as it’s lying on the road opposite a bar which has the symbol of a frog as part of its name.

When I got back home, I went in the roof, and got the star watcher app out and scanned the skies. It was amazing. I found lying on the table was a good way of looking at the night sky above my head. The phone has a small screen, it might be best to use the iPad in future.
