When the North wind…
Tuesday 27th September - Hora and Livadi
In the port area, on the passenger waiting place wall is this plaque:
The plaque reads
In front of the ridge of Serifos when the sun rises the cannons of all the great worldviews get inflammation."
Odysseus Elytis
In the trough at home, things were coming along nicely, the succulent was flowering.
However last night I could hear the wind was picking up so I took the umbrella which is on the roof down. Overnight the strength of the wind has built up. I looked at the trough this morning and it was getting blown to bits, so I have moved it to somewhere a bit more sheltered. The yellow flowers have closed up perhaps because it’s a bit chilly!
There was a lovely sunset behind the house last night, there were fleecy clouds and the combination of them and the sun dropping behind the mountains was lovely. I had to walk up a little way towards the miners track to get the best view.
Because of the wind and the fact I had a disturbed nights sleep, I walked to Livadi and back and get the last two ingredients for the chick pea soup. It is less windy down there and quite muggy. I bought a box of Cretan red wine, and as I climbed back up, I appreciated the return of the wind. I went to the place I took last nights photos, and settled the phone in a suitably shaped rock and took some time lapse videos of Hora with the clouds scuttling atop of it.
So I made the Greek Chick Pea Stew, but I used dry chick peas that need a longer cooking time than specified in this recipe. I didn’t have any of the herbs, so I had to get them all, but they are all classic herbs, so will be used over the next few months.
