Fantastic Friday
Friday 16th Hora
Some of the things I am doing for the first time are like visiting beaches that I had never seen before. Well for some days they are going to be mundane things. But important! I gave the washing machine a load to wash yesterday afternoon. I did the eco cycle. This took an hour. The spin speed is only 1000 rpm. But that’s not a problem here. As I put the washing out on the funny cantilever washing line screwed to the house wall, I could actually feel the washing drying out! But in the winter things might be different! The only problem I had was the washing line was a bit dusty so the washing got a bit messy on the line, but I am not going to be troubled by that! So washing done, box ticked.
I also have my own version of Amazon at the local supermarket. Anything they don’t have they can probably get at their suppliers. So I have ordered some kitchen scales. They will be here waiting for me when I get back from Syros.
Looking out of the window this morning, there are clouds, kissing the top of the mountains that face this house. I thought it looked very pretty. Even as the morning continues they are still there, they haven’t burnt off.
Part of the supporting information for my five year permit application are bank account details and statements. It’s kind of odd because after the statement is printed you could move the money. So this morning I had to print off a couple of statements. The problem, on the iPad printing to a pdf, it does not have the date on the pdf document whereas on safari on the Mac does. Well I brought the Mac with me and a cable to connect it to a tv. I hooked it all up and after logging in, Neville the much loved Cocker Spaniel appeared on the tv.
The only problem left, was the Mac refuses to connect to the little router I bought. Ironically on the Wi-Fi network list was Oh Plakes, the taverna next door. My iCloud settings knew its password, as I ate there in June. Once setup, I was able to get the pdf with todays date.
The shower in the bathroom is in the corner with those sliding plastic doors. They run in metal slots with little wheels. Annoyingly one door is not fitted properly so keeps dislocating itself. After a bit of fiddling, it’s now ok.
Today I am going to have a wander around Pano Hora which is the top and oldest bit of Hora on the mountain. As it’s all paths, there are no names and at best you might get church names and other buildings like the town hall in the big open square.
As I walked past my favourite coffee shop, the priest I know, Father Panagiatis was outside and we said hello. He doesn’t shake hands like we do, he just holds you hand and then lets it go. I then wandered around and sort of headed to the highest bit where there are a couple of churches. I could see lots of people were gathered around one of them, I imagine they were on a tour. By the churches, there are ruins of a castle. Because of the direction of the wind, on one side of Hora there is no wind at all, but as soon as you face the other side the wind makes itself felt.
I got a lovely view of Livadi, the Sea Jet was coming in and was doing its toot, as usual. There were quite a few people about as I wandered around and they all said hello. I saw the Bouganville and gave it a drink as I did last time. Every so often you go through a tunnel, on one, a lady has a shop that is part of the tunnel. At one point I could hear the children playing in the infants school down on the path to Livadi. I walked past a big Rosemary bush, it was flowering and it was covered in bees. I then came to the big square with the Town Hall, it wasn’t very busy. This is where the Father’s church is.
