Overnight laundry service

Not a too shabby an overnight laundry service last night. I put the clothes out, before I went to bed, and in the morning, the wind had worked its magic and everything was bone dry. I popped outside to check the clothes in the morning, with the moon over the mountains, and the sun rising opposite, it’s going to be a warmer day, with the wind easing up some more.

The first Cruise ship has moored off the island for this year. The guests are ferried to us in smaller boats as the ship can’t berth in our harbour. I don’t know how many of these ships visit us, but Hora is going to get busier  during the day for sure when they are here. The dog walks were funny, in that only the first went as expected, both the old guys had trouble with theirs, which is to be expected, but troubling of course. This meant the walk with Scoopy had me going back to drop the old guy Mavro off and then resuming the walk. I decided to go to where there was an old quarry, which is where I was taught to go to start with when I started these walks, what seems like ages ago. What was interesting was we saw a lot of poppies, and other flowers I have not seen on my other walks. So I must go down there again before too long.

While we were resting, Maloney was making a lot of noise, and I could see him moving about on the dry stone wall, beside the path to the house at the Dog Palace. I decided to take a look. He had demolished part of the wall, he is only the size of a Cocker Spaniel and all the plants that were in it, were no more. We rebuilt it, but he is a little rascal like the one I used to walk who lived in Ruscombe. A friend of my friend who set this place up,  who is currently in Athens turned up unexpectedly, they are Italian I think and live in Koutalous.

After lunch, I chatted with the person who helped my friend set this place up, well he is a friend of mine too now of course! He has a van that he uses to drive back to Switzerland which you can live in. It looks very smart. They go back the way that takes you to across on  a ferry, to avoid much of the driving. It’s parked in Livadi. It’s just the right size to avoid the highest fare for vehicles on the ferries. An old phone was then brought out, and photos shown to me of when they had a foot of snow, torrents of rain that lasted days, creating lakes and rivers about and more. Old photos of dogs, long gone and Rita’s mum, who looked lovely, and the pups, Rita unexpectedly had, Fritz being the dad, it was assumed. It was a lovely shared experience. Then it was back to dog care, before we drove back on the lonely track then road, back to Hora.
